Birthdate:Jun 22
Painter by day, astronomer by night, and folder of hapless squares of paper for all those long minutes in between!

Bryan-- or James to his friends and "Bry" to absolutely no one-- is a highly logical individual possessing a mind rather like a fruitcake. His interests vary from Arabic to zoology (which is not to exclude accidence or, heavens forbid, the number 4), and he has been described as "a bit nutty", which is probably the understatement of the year. Despite his firm belief that science can explain everything and a rather unfortunate habit of drawing up to-do lists every day, his idiosyncratic behavior proves that he is an ALIEN. Or at least mentally Not All There, which is nearly the same thing anyway.

Although deeply involved in all fields of science, Bryan also enjoys pursuing the arts and, if the quality of his artwork is anything to judge by, he saves time by painting as he does so. (It has been suggested that if he actually did paint while running, it might actually turn out well.) Despite his innate inability to produce anything visually appealing when presented with paints and brush, Bryan seems to have a knack for the ancient Japanese art that is origami. It must have something to do with the geometric shapes.

Bryan has been working as a technical operative for T.H.E.Y. for almost four months now, during which he completed his supplementary training and went on his first assignment. Trial mission? What trial mission? Oh yes, that's right-- new recruits are required to complete a trial mission before being formally accepted. Which brings us to the subject of Bryan's previous job-- magical operative for T.H.E.Y. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Bryan was no longer able to maintain the post, and T.H.E.Y. had had to let him go after nearing two years of service. After some negotiation, however, Bryan was able to secure a new career, which happened to involve working for the same organization that had just fired him. The switch to working with technology was mostly painless, especially for Bryan's scientifically-inclined disposition. However, T.H.E.Y. unaccountably asked Bryan to refrain from using magic in future missions-- a clean cut, they explained.

It was with surprisingly little argument that Bryan agreed.

Bryan is a vegetarian, though not a vegan. He will eat...

...animal products.
...other plant matter. meat.
...NO MUSHROOMS. Fungi are NOT plants. It is inadvisable to get him started on the subject. He has diagrams to prove his point.
...yogurt. Note: sweetened yogurt is not yogurt. Sweetened yogurt is artificial. Bryan will only eat plain yogurt, or fruit-on-the-bottom. He will never finish an entire cup of yogurt in any case, usually electing to leave most of the fruit behind. He has become quite skilled at covertly slipping the remainder into the trash.

Bryan studies...

...all manner of science, most especially astronomy.
...languages, although he has proved inept at differentiating between languages that share common origins. His line of reasoning goes something like this: as long as they're all there in his head, what does it matter what they're called? Poorly.

Bryan will not... if there is background noise, unless music he likes is also playing at the same time.
...tolerate the mistreatment of books. basketball, football, or any sort of sport, in fact.
...get his hands dirty. If it proves absolutely unavoidable, Bryan's brain will not resume functioning until the problem is resolved. Preferrably with soap.
...get angry.
...take care of your dog, cat, or small child.

Bryan is...

...extremely picky about details, grammar, and what he eats.
...prone to mood swings.
...also prone to saying silly things at a deadpan.
...fond of plants.
...distrustful of heights.
...a self-declared morning person. That is to say, he's generally pretty happy in the morning. The fact that he's usually asleep mornings has no bearing on the matter.

Born June 22, Bryan just made Cancer. According to, the personality and behaviors associated with Cancer are as follows:

Cancer (the crab) is one of the most difficult zodiac signs to understand. Cancerians can have many different personalities. Most Cancerians like to be at their home, and enjoy large families. You seem unsociable to some people, but you enjoy chatting and gossiping as much as anyone else. You tend to day-dream very often and can be found in a state of fantasy. You enjoy art, writing, and drama, but acting may not be a good career for you because of your tendency to Overact. Cancer is the sign most likely to believe in the zodiac, as well as other psychic happenings. You make a loyal friend and also very patriotic.

Bryan highly disagrees, and, out of spite, refuses to read the horoscope. That ought to show them.

The brightest star in Cancer (or Alpha Cancri) is Acubens, meaning "Claw". It is, in fact, situated on the claw of Cancer, if you have the sort of imagination needed to make a couple of stars look like a crab.

According to

Acubens has a Martian nature and a strong blending in of Saturnian influence, conveying an unbalanced and "jumpy" nature. If the chart is a disharmonious one to people effected by it and especially if Acubens is in conjunction with Mars, Sun or Uranus, this will make for an unsettled mentality and helplessness. If in conjunction with Saturn, major disappointments in life, ordeals and trials, mental suffering, excitements, loss, opposition, disputes and deception are indicated. According to Elsbeth Ebertin's experience, this is the case especially if these persons are in positions of social standing or are politically active.

One significance of Acubens is the enforced use of applied intelligence when finding oneself in combat at someone else's behest. But a generally more positive quality to read from Acubens is that of a sharp intellect and ease of coming to grips with problems, for which one might earn public renown. But, again there is the note of doing this under pressure of others demanding 'from behind'.

James Bryan is a character created for no_mans_land_, and is completely and utterly fictional. Tough luck. Contact the RPer at lily22.
